Are You a Hybrid Professional? If you do more than one thing for work, then you likely are
Hybrid professionals are a hidden segment of the workforce. They are professionals who integrate professional identities together and that makes them unique, yet they are undervalued and underseen in the workforce because employers don't understand how their different identities fit together. This will be an interactive session with framing about hybrid professionals, and then two activities the audience can participate in to discover and learn about their own hybrid professional identity. By the end, the audience will have awareness about hybrids and at least two or three tools they can use to clearly articulate their hybridity to clients and employers. An entrepreneur, ecosystem builder, and elected official walk into a bar…A conversation about the future of rural Colorado with Governor Jared Polis
Join a conversation with Governor Polis – an entrepreneur, ecosystem builder, and elected official – about the future of rural Colorado.

Before Jared Polis became the 43rd Governor of Colorado, he was a successful entrepreneur who started and sold multiple companies. He’s one of the founders of Techstars (the platform bringing you Startup Weeks). He was also what we now call an “ecosystem builder” focusing on education, access to technology, and the intersection of the two. Now, he’s a politician charged with leading the State of Colorado. What’s his vision for rural Colorado? What does he see as the next steps for supporting entrepreneurship and startup communities in rural Colorado? As a past entrepreneur, what ideas does he have for rural growth and ecosystem building? Tune in to find out.

Opportunity Zones in rural Colorado
This presentation will be a fireside chat with Jason Blevins from the Colorado Sun interviewing Shawn Bertini from Four Points Funding (4PF). The two will unpack the Opportunity Zones, their impact on the West Slope so far and the important role they can play going forward.
The two will dig into OZ rules lightly before jumping into a discussion of multiple projects across the western slope that have garnered national recognition. They will identify key elements that attracted investment in each case and share general emerging trends on structuring OZ deals.
The application of Opportunity Zone incentives is accelerating in rural america. Despite some conflicting press, this bipartisan tax incentive will play an important role in rural america going forward. Please join in the fireside chat and open Q&A about the role this program will play in our area.

How to Run Marketing Experiments Quickly & Find Big Wins
For small startups with product-market fit, a big challenge is how to scale and which marketing channels will help you grow fastest. With limited time, money, and people, you can't afford to waste it on channels that are sub-optimal. Instead, you need to quickly identify the highest ROI channel and then scale it. In this workshop I'll explain (and share!) the framework I use to help small businesses and startups prioritize high-impact growth campaigns to quickly drive R.O.I. and key learnings, then invest in additional campaigns to scale up what works. As an early-stage founder or marketer, you'll come away with a step-by-step process that you can execute yourself.

When to Build a Tech Team
You've got a business problem to solve. You have a sense that some piece of software (app, website, desktop) might be the solution.

There's a vision to build a company out of this: solving a problem that a lot of people have, making their lives better, making some money along the way. You've got a team together with you at the helm.

There are some steps between here and that vision, though, and an important question is WHEN TO BUILD A TECH TEAM? When do you look for a CTO? When do you hire your first developer? Do you need a tech team at all? These are questions we'll ask and find some answers for.

How to Overcome the Fear of Public Speaking (AND so much else)
Every person is capable of more than they know, yet we alone stop ourselves from stepping into that possibility. Statistically, 8 of 10 people fear public speaking more than death, which makes public speaking a great arena to explore our fears, how we hold ourselves back, and what we need to do about it. During this session, audiences will explore the neuroscience of fear and what happens during our flight or fight experience, and learn research-based strategies to effectively manage fears and increase confidence. The presentation utilizes Krista’s personal journey to overcome the fear of public speaking with research, neuroscience, and a whole bunch of “hacks” that will leave the audience laughing – but most importantly relating – to the fact that we all can overcome fear in our lives.

Intrapreneurship is the act of behaving like an entrepreneur while working within a large organization. Entrepreneurship is the process of designing, launching and running a new business. Regardless of which you are, you can choose to continue with the status quo, or choose to make a difference in the lives of others - within your own or someone else's company.  Who wants to feel empowered and recognized for their innovative and creative ideas? Who wants to make a difference? If you answered yes to these questions, then this talk will help you become energized, find your creative power, and ready to push your ideas forward.

All sessions at West Slope Startup Week 2020 will be recorded. By joining the session, you agree to be part of the recording.

HANDS-ON SPRINT: Uplevel your business with regenerative innovation
With the world facing major challenges now, in the short-term, and over the next fifty years, business is poised to solve these challenges, but will it solve them doing business as usual?

Regenerative Innovation is an emerging field that allows organizations such as businesses to understand the complex systems they operate in and the complex problems they’re (hopefully) working to solve.

Ultimately, entrepreneurs and business leaders will need to create products, places, processes and business models that empower people and heal the planet. Otherwise, there is no market place to do business in. In turn, such an approach can carve out deep market leadership, ensure relevance, and begin building a world that works for everyone.

In this session we will explore how you can uplevel your business model to become a game changing leader while also doing good. Come prepared to ask yourself hard questions, roll up your sleeves and tinker and also have fun while doing it.

Facilitators
Adrian Reif has been a social entrepreneur and investor for over a decade, growing his first company from a farmers’ market stand to sold in over 6,000 grocery stores. Now, Adrian’s company, Incredible, helps ambitious orgs rethink how to fix the future. He’s also the author of The Do-Gooder's Guide to Investing, a guide for anyone who wants to align their money and their values. https://www.linkedin.com/in/adrian-reif-573419153/

Mansi Kakkar calls herself a pattern transcriber and convenes explorative conversations for regeneration. She has been working in the field of design and innovation for the last 14 years having traveled the length and breath of this world building capacity in innovation labs tackling the most complex problems facing humanity. All this experience is being synthesized in an upcoming book ‘Regenerative Innovation’, releasing in 2021. Mansi is also an artist, dancer, poet and performer. When not filling her office wall with post-its, she spends time making regenerative memes for kicks. www.mansikakkar.com  https://www.linkedin.com/in/mansikakkar/

Coding for Sustainability
Bringing the cloud to earth. Apps create a HIGH demand for data which in turn generates a massive demand for electricity. It is hard to correlate exactly how apps and developers have a carbon footprint which use finite natural resources. However, they undoubtedly are creating an ecological impact through electricity demand. The device used to access the app, the illusive servers that deliver the app to the device, as well as the power the servers demand to store the app for 24/7 availability are incidences that all require electricity.

How can developers implement sustainability into their coding and beyond? Learn where sustainable coding is at currently (case studies, what has been found thus far, etc.) Then an open discussion/brainstorm session will be held for attendees to expand ideas, discuss personal experiences, and find solutions.

Online Marketing: Do You Do The Dance?
As a startup entrepreneur, you go through seasons of wearing too many hats to outsourcing tasks. When the results are less than stellar, you bounce back and forth. They say 50% of all marketing efforts get results, but which 50%? You must do all of it to find the half that works. If you are like many business owners you've given the reins to the professionals and after getting less-than-stellar results you've taken the reins away to do it yourself again. This constant dance gives you inconsistent results, and a piecemeal strategy. Join this session to find out how to "stop dancing" and start generating revenue. As a business coach who has worked with more than 250 startups, I'm sharing the secret with you!

Why we should invest in women-led businesses
Access to capital is one of the largest challenges an entrepreneur can face – especially if they are female, and a founder of color. Despite starting over 30% of businesses, women only receive 5% of small business loans in the US, and just over 2% of venture capital. These statistics are even worse for women of color. Against these odds, women-led businesses - specifically businesses owned by black women and latinx women - are growing at the fastest rate in the nation. We will hear from entrepreneurs, impact investors and foundations engaged on why investing in women, especially women of color, is crucial for our economy.

Panel is co-hosted by First Southwest Community Fund, Impact Finance Center and Colorado Lending Source
